Giorgio Morandi. A retrospective
The still lifes of Giorgio Morandi (1890-1964), reduced to their essence, are iconic works of modern art. At first, Morandi worked in the spirit of the Italian tradition.
His constant searching and intensive experimentation for example, with futurism resulted in his characteristically enigmatic paintings and drawings. Via a careful selection of works from private collections and European art institutions, Maria Cristina Bandera, Morandi specialist par excellence, takes the visitor into the artist's world. The catalogue of this exhibition, aiming as all those organized by Bozar at making a master and his art known also in connection with the historical and social context of his times, features an essay on Giorgio Morandi and his art, as well as approximately twenty entries on a selection of works, a catalogue section including all the works on show and an analysis of the artist's work and his influence on other major artists.
