100 Masterworks. Spanish Royal Collections
This publication presents 100 utter masterpieces chosen from the extensive and invaluable holdings of the Spanish Royal Collections which conserve more than 165,000 pieces. They are outstanding representatives of all the artistic disciplines that enrich the Crown's treasury: illuminated books of hours, small devotional paintings, delicate pieces of goldwork and large tapestries, mediaeval textiles, sculptures, weapons and armour, furniture, carriages, frescoes, spectacular fountains, celebrated paintings by Bosch, Titian, Velázquez, Caravaggio, Goya and, in short, grandiose works which combine all the arts, like the Throne Room of the Royal Palace of Madrid. With more than 100 full-page photographs and close-ups, each work is introduced by the conservators of the Royal Collections, which makes a publication, the first to accompany the opening of the Gallery of the Royal Collections, in which readers can become immersed, awestruck, in the great treasures harboured by Spanish Patrimonio Nacional (national heritage institution).
